Client and Family
Psycho-education
Sessions

At 'A Forward Step', we understand that it can be a prolonged period from first awareness of one's difficulties to gaining a diagnosis that represents your mental health needs.

A diagnosis should be a positive step forward towards getting the support that you require to flourish, however often individuals find a clinical 'label' difficult to understand.

We are able to offer our clients and their families a Psycho-education Session where the diagnosis is explored, potential difficulties and obstacles discussed, and your questions answered.  Psycho-education can be provided for clients with the following categories of mental health diagnoses.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Learning Disability
  • Mental Illness
  • Personality Disorder
Where a Psycho-education Session is held in clinic, the fee is £110 (60 minutes).
Some clients request that this session be held at a family home or a school/ college, so that less mobile family members or a key teacher can attend.  This is often possible, and additional fees depend on distance travelled by our psychologist.

Clinical Training Programmes for Organisations

Our clinicians have developed and delivered numerous training programmes.  Our clients have included NHS Trusts, a Private Health Company, a Charity, Children's Services (CAMHS), and a Borough Council.  Programmes have been delivered to small groups (such as one clinical team of 10-15 people), to large groups (such as 300 people in an open public session), and to every size of group in between.

Training has also been provided on a regular basis for some large organisations, for example as part of their monthly new staff 'Induction Programmes', or as part of a yearly education programme for staff.

Training packages delivered have included the following titles:
  • Emerging personality disorder and mental illness in young people
  • Managing interpersonal boundaries in clinical practice
  • Mental health awareness
  • Mental health disorders; Mental Illness and Personality Disorder training
  • Social learning theory and child development
  • Risk assessment in hospital settings
  • Therapeutic skills; for individual therapy and group therapy facilitation
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder; relevance to relationships and behaviour, both at home and at school.
Training is adapted to meet the needs of the organisation, and new bespoke packages can be designed to meet requirements.  All enquires will be promptly responded to, and quotes provided.
